Modern Events Calendar - can't update past 3.5.2

I’ve been working on this for awhile and I’m out of ideas. I’m running Pro 2.5.5 with a Child theme, and I haven’t been able to update Modern Events Calendar past version 3.5.2. Any updates more recent than that cause my site to hang. Luckily, I have a staging site, so this has not affected my production site.

I have tried many, many troubleshooting steps, including deactivating all other plugins and switching to Twenty Nineteen theme, with the same results. I would appreciate any other ideas you may have to help me track this down. If I can’t fix it, I will eventually have to find a new calendar plugin to replace MEC, but if I can possibly find the problem, I would much rather fix what I have. Thank you!

Thanks for writing in!

As of today the supported version of MEC is 4.3.6. As you are trying to update from 3.5.2, I suggest you to first deactivate and delete MEC from Plugins > Installed Plugins. Doing so won’t delete the MEC data. After that from Pro > Validation > Extensions install Modern Event Calendar, it will download and install latest supported version of MEC.

Thank you Prasant! Your suggestion of deactivating/deleting and re-installing the plugin allowed me to take a huge step forward in solving this problem. The site no longer hangs up, there is just a minor problem with how one of the calendar widgets is displaying, but I’m pretty sure a CSS tweak or two will resolve that. Have a great day!
