Modern Events Calendar - 404 Error - Events Not Displaying

I’m having an issue with Modern Calendar Events randomly not showing event pages, they display as a 404 error. They do show initially and then after some time (days or up to a week) later disappear. When logged in the events are still visible in M.E. Calendar >> All Events. The only thing that restores visibility is deactivating and then reactivating the MEC plugin.

I’ve gone back and forth a bit with Webnus support, but they seem a little stuck at this point and keep asking me to check for a plugin conflict. Unfortunately, because the issue can take up to a week or so to appear (with no known triggering event) doing this would take weeks and I can’t take the site down for that long. I could set this up as staging, but my concern is that the issue may not repeat itself if the trigger is something use (or user) related.

I’ve searched the forum here and see some others have had similar issues, but couldn’t find any solid solution to the issue that is applicable to my situation.

Here’s what I’ve already tried:

  • Eliminating all non-essential plugins
  • Increasing max file size and memory limits (see below for details)
  • Deactivating and reactivating MEC plugin (only works temporarily)
  • Verifying permalink structure (set to post name)
  • Updating MEC plugin

Per Webnus support I have also set my configuration below:

  • upload_max_filesize = 2GB
  • post_max_size = 2GB
  • memory_limit = 128M
  • max_execution_time = 600
  • max_input_vars = 10000
  • max_input_time = 400

Pro Version: 3.2.3
MEC Version: 5.15.0

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if you would like me to send login credentials or need any additional information.

Hey @mgalindo,

The event page you posted does not exist.

The issue could really be a plugin conflict. Please don’t be selective when performing a plugin conflict test. Deactivate ALL 3rd party plugins to test.

If the issue persists, please give us the following information in a Secure Note.

  • WordPress Login URL
  • Admin username and password
  • URL of the even page that exist

You can find the Secure Note button at the bottom of your posts.

Thanks.

I know, that is the problem…

I know how to check for plugin conflicts, my point is that without knowing the trigger (e.g. a WooCommerce order, GravityForms submission, etc.) a staging site may not recreate what is causing the issue thus providing a false negative on the plugin conflict check. Furthermore, if it is a plugin conflict it would still take weeks, if not months, to identify because it can take up to a week for the issue to occur.

I reset the plugin and tried changing the main slug to see if it’s an issue with the events slug and permalink structure. I’ll update with login details if this doesn’t resolve the issue.

For anyone else who may be facing a similar problem:

The first iteration of this website many years ago used the Church demo which changed the Porfolio Items main slug to “events” which conflicts with the Modern Events Calendar plugin’s main slug “events”. Not 100% sure why it would work for any amount of time, but changing the main slug fixed the issue.

I would recommend Themeco update with demo so future users don’t run into this issue, particularly since MEC is bundled with X/Pro.

HI @mgalindo,
