How do I set a light transparent background color behind my menu text for mobile devices?

Hi there,

Our theme does not have that functionality out of the box. This is a customization request which is outside of our support scope and we will not be able to implement the functionality for you. but we will do our best to give you proper suggestions to do it yourself.

Kindly add the CSS code below to X > Launch > Options > CSS:

@media (max-width: 979px) {
    .x-navbar .x-nav-wrap .x-nav > li > a {
        background-color: rgba(0,0,0,0.5);
    }
}

As you wanted to have the feature only on mobile devices we had to restrict the code to the media queries which will affect only for devices under the 979px browser width. Also, be used to rgba CSS property to be able to add the alpha property to make the black color a little bit transparent.
