Mobile Menu won't expand on my phone

Hi,
Since updating to X version 6.0.4 and Cornerstone version 3.0.4, the mobile menu is not expanding on my phone when using its default internet browser (Android WebView 1). It is working fine on my phone when I use the Chrome browser. It is also working on two other Android phones (my husband’s and my son’s). The URL of the website is https://snickersanddoodles.com/salon

Here are some things I have tried that did not solve the problem:

  • Cleared WPSuperCache cache
  • Cleared CloudFlare cache
  • Disabled CloudFlare’s CSS & JavaScript autominification
  • Disabled CloudFlare’s Brotli compression
  • Cleared browser cache on my phone

Here’s some information about my phone:

  • Samsung
  • Model number: SGH-T399
  • Android version: 4.2.2
  • Browser: Android WebView 1

I have just checked your site on my phone and it works fine on Google Chrome and Safari as well.

This might be an issue specific to the phone browser you are using.

Kindly try to check if the browser that you are using is updated then also please try to clear the browser cache and see if it fixes the issue.

My phone’s default browser is WebView, a built-in web browser that comes with older Android devices like mine. According to this article by ZDNet, Google no longer develops security patches for WebView on Android 4.3 or earlier (and my phone is Android 4.2.2). It also states:

“Unfortunately, neither OEMs nor carriers deliver new versions to older smartphones or tablets on any kind of regular basis. Unlike Windows, where Microsoft delivers patches directly to end-users, ordinary Android users are stuck with whatever updates or patches their phone makers or phone companies will dole out to them.”

So, the version of WebView on my phone is probably out of date, and there is no easy way to update it. The article suggests using Chrome, Firefox, or Opera instead of WebView. I have already verified that the problem does not occur when using Chrome.

I already tried clearing the browser cache, and it didn’t help.

It seems I should just avoid using WebView or upgrade my phone.

Is that what you recommend?

Great information. We really appreciate you sharing it to us. Hence, , it would be best that you will not use WebView or use other browser that supports well with your setup.

I know that you cannot control your web visitor’s browser to use so I will submit this thread to our developer so that they could look on it and could be able to suggest workaround.

It is concerning that the mobile menu won’t work on older Android devices unless the user switches from the browser that comes installed on their device to a better browser. So, thanks for referring this issue to developers.
