Mobile menu not working on mobiles

Hi All,

The mobile menu is smooth when it is used on desktops in responsive mode.

Based on a 4S using version 9.3.5 things turn around:

  • Complete Gym Demo X, that means only a main menu, no subs
  • 1st home page load is fine & 1st hamburger use to solely expand the menu: menu expands along with a flickering issue & the flickering repeats when using the hamburger again without doing anything else afterwards
  • 1st use of a menu-option is fine & if one hits the hamburger after that the menu expands and is not kept that way / it goes back up directly after

We installed another staging site to retest the mobile menu on several mobile devices:

  • Latest WP.
  • Latest X, Cornerstone, Slider Revolution, WPBakery, Contact Form 7, Under Construction.
  • Latest complete Gym Demo X.
  • No additional configs or content.
  • Second test after deactivation of Slider Revolution, WPBakery, Contact Form 7, Under Construction.

Results: the flickering issue and down and up issue continue.

This is critical and we strongly ask Themeco to prioritize it.

Awesome,
JJ

Hi @nlwd,

Thanks for writing in.

I could not replicate the issue on my side. Would you mind sharing us your URL so we could check your setup closer and we could replicate the issue in our side.

Thank you so much.

Hi @nico,

The issues are known to more of us. Thanks go to @AmyDyson.

Let me tell you, we used the most basic setup for this test.
Based on your message I now installed the setup as described a 3rd time on a totally separate virtual environment controlled by a different host and got both issues again.

You can repeat the setup as described - latest WP, latest X, latest Gym Demo X, latest Cornerstone, no other plugins and no additional configs or content - and find both issues directly on several mobiles including 4S.

Btw: we don´t have the issues when we navigate on Gym X Live (without having looked at this setup in detail, but we assume it is all based on the same code base).

Thanks, awesome,
JJ

Hi There,

I have tried to replicate this issue on my end by generating Gym demo on a fresh installation, but the mobile menu is functioning properly as expected.

Please provide us with the login credentials to one of your referenced site in a secure note, so that we can look into your issue.

If you’re using CloudFlare, make sure to clear your CloudFlare cache as well by login to your CloudFlare account and also make sure to disable CloudFlare’s CSS & JavaScript autominification options under the Speed Tab.

Thanks!

Hi @mldarshana,

If CF, Varnish or any CDN or anything else besides the described elements would be part of the sites, this would have been listed.

The note is available.

Awesome,
JJ

Hi guys,

This is more like device performance issue since it’s a 4s device. The 4s is already slow on iOS8 when it became available, and so does much slower with iOS9. All sites with JS animation or easing will be slow regardless of theme.

In X theme, even the parallax animation is disabled for modern mobile devices due to a performance issue. Now, load your site on a device that’s actually slow and that’s you’ll get.

You can solve this by replacing your device’s hardware like CPU (since javascript uses CPU), but that’s completely impossible. Or disable most of the theme features related to javascript ( and it’s not just the theme, plugins too) which is also impossible as you can’t tell every author of the theme and plugins to remove those features. Or simply use different theme just for mobile, this is possible, a sample is https://wordpress.org/plugins/wpsmart-mobile/

As to explain further the device’s limitation, I’ll use PC as the analogy. Let’s say you have a Pentium 4 PC and installed Windows 10, it’s going to be too slow. Then you have to use a Photoshop software but you can’t fully utilize its feature and often hangs. But this time in our case, it’s the browser that has issues instead of Photoshop since it can’t function correctly due to device limitation affecting the site’s that are being loaded.

Thanks!

Hi @Rad,

Right on, we took several of the latest models, the obsolete ones produce these and other issues.

We´re not gonna use a different setup for mobiles though, X is way too nice@

JJ
