Migrating from Avada

I plan to migrate from Avada theme to X. I have purchased and installed the theme but when I activate the theme my site is completely screwed up. I realize the fusion builder from Avada probably has custom formatting that was turned off and I realize that I need to basically create new “pages” and layout my homepage, blog pages etc…

First, what is the best approach to migrating a live site?

Second, I have watched a couple of tutorial videos, looked through the documentation and I am a little concerned about some features that may be missing here in X. I have them listed below.

Blog Post List -
Using an extension to pull in blog posts in a list. Look at mikeszone.com and you will see what I am trying to accomplish. I was in the midst of some editing with the sidebar so it isn’t how I want it but at least you will see a general idea how my site is organized and layed out.

Header changes including adding a masthead above content and page title.

Last, ultimately I am trying to emulate this web design. I like the functionality of the fixed sidebar and fixed masthead within the header. Here is a blog post page example - https://www.challies.com/articles/no-bible-no-breakfast/

So I have 4 different pages I will need to design.

  1. Homepage
  2. Post page
  3. Search results
  4. Category pages

Please offer some suggestions. I have read “migrating to Pro from Avada” in the KB but i am concerned about editing a php file to do what I want. Are there other options?

Thanks for your help answering my questions & concerned.

Hi there,

Thanks for writing in!

The first step to migrating the site to a new theme would be to setup a separate staging environment. This ensures you don’t break your current/existing website while users are trying to browse it. It’ll also help assist in the fact it’ll provide a point of reference for aspects like text and images.

Once you have the staging area setup, install and activate X. Then ensure all Avada plugins such as the fusion builder are deactivated and make a list of what needs doing.

You’ll need to build the pages in Cornerstone. The pages from your list you can build in Cornerstone would be the:

  1. Homepage.

All other pages you’ve mentioned are directly controlled by page templates within the theme itself. These templates are editable though in a child theme if required.

The posts page can be set to look similar to mikeszone, but setting the “Masonry” option in X > Launch > Options. Here you can set the Masonry grid layout along with setting it to 2 columns.

Fixed headers and above/below mastheads positions are possible. You may need some custom CSS for this, which our team would be more than happy to assist with.

Once you’re happy with everything. You can then download the template from Cornerstone, import into the main site and set all options (as on the staging site).

Hope this helps.

Thanks!

Thank you for your reply.

Can you provide a wireframe of what the header and mastehead would look like or instructions for the fixed headers and above below mastheads.

Regarding the post, search, and category pages, and making a child theme, can you explain or elaborate how to do this? I’ve not made a child theme before.

Thanks

Hi There,

I guess we are overthinking simple things.

It is a bit confusing what you want to achieve.

Please create a list of feature you are struggling to achieve in X and bring an example togheter if possible.

for example…

1- I want to header fixed, like this website.

2- I want to show my recent pots on side bar…etc…

Thank you
