Messed up categories for blog & shop!

Hi Guy’s,

Seems I have messed up my blog & shop categories somehow! When using the blog menu it diverts to some shop categories, help!

Also on my blog I created to headers, one for the blog post pages (this seems to be working as it should) and another one for the blog home page and category pages, this header would not display the featured image as it does on the blog post page…however this is now not working!

I would really appreciate some help, please.

Daniel

Hello Daniel,

Thanks for writing in!

Since your categories in blog and shop page previously work and is now showing some issues, you may only have some caching issues. Always remember to clear all caches since you are using WP Rocket so that the code from the latest release is always in use. This will help you to avoid any potential errors. And please clear your browser cache too. You may use private browsing mode in testing your site to make sure that you are viewing the latest codes from the updates and not the cached version in your browser.

And also I found out that you are using CloudFlare. Right after your updates, please log in to your CloudFlare account and purge your site cache. You also need to regenerate the minified CSS and JS files in CloudFlare.

Please let us know how it goes.

Hello,

No, i’m not sure thats correct, the blog categories and shop categories have always been messed up, I think I may have made them worse when creating another header for the shop section!

The blog categories were fine, then I installed woocommerce, when you select blog categories it goes to shop categories!

thanks
Daniel

Hello Daniel,

I have logged in to your site again and I cannot replicate the issue. I can see that you only have two blog categories, namely How-to’s and Uncategorized. When I go to your blog index and clicked the categories, it goes straight to the blog categories with no issues.

See the secure note.

Upon checking your custom headers, it seems that the “SHOP Landing Page, Category & Archive” custom header is replacing the blog archive headers. Please double check your header assignments. The “BLOG Page, Category & Archive” custom header must be assigned to the blog index or Posts Page.

As of now in header builder, you don’t get the option to assign headers for blog category. However, I’ve checked our issues tracker and I can see this one is on the features request list, so it’s most likely will be seen in one of the future releases depending on many factors, I’ve added your vote to this feature request.

Regards.

So are we/you saying that as it stands there is no way to get the correct header to display on the blog category/archive pages?

OK, I have tried to get this back to how it was, im going to install woocommerce on a sub domain (for several reasons)

I have sorted it mostly…however I cant get my blog header to show on category pages?

Hey @Dan1el,

The reason for that is you have custom code in your child theme’s functions.php. I understand the purpose of the code is to assign a header to archives because Pro doesn’t currently have that option.

However, it’s the user’s responsibility to know how to use the code, fix or enhance it. Otherwise, you’d need to hire a developer to integrate the custom code to your site because we do not fix custom codes as part of our theme support.

If you’re interested to learn how to use the code though, please check this post Category Page / Custom Header

Hope that helps and thank you for understanding.
