Menu Item anchor link

Hi Guys,

I’m looking to have a menu item that also serves as an anchor link on the homepage.

I gave the section an ID name, and used a custom menu item with the #work after the homepage url path, and it works great on the homepage, but on the other pages it doesn’t work.

Basically, I want the Work menu item to link to the section under the video on the homepage. Works perfectly on the homepage, but not on any other pages on the site.

Any ideas?

Hi There,

Thanks for writing in!

I am not able to access the site, showing some login error.
Can you please try removing http:// from the Link. and let us know how it work.

Thanks

That worked a treat, thank you so much!

You’re most welcome.

Sorry, one more question. I have two links in the menu now that both link to the home page (Home & Work), and both are highlighted red on the homepage in the menu, as they are both on the same page. Is there any way to have the custom link only be highlighted on hover, and not in idle? If that makes sense!

Hey @billy.rooney,

That is because you’re using full URL. Please use #work only.

I believe you’ve set it up this way because you’re using the menu globally? One Page Navigation is not recommended and was not meant to be used globally. It’s purpose is for landing page navigation. With that said, you need to create another menu and use the fragment identifier only for like I suggested above. Assign the newly created menu to your home page.

Thanks.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply. So basically you’re saying that I can’t have a fragment identifier outside of the homepage, the link won’t work, is that correct, that it doesn’t work globally at all?

Yes. For your home page, you need to create a menu without using full URLs. For the rest of your pages, you can use your current menu.

Thanks.

I really appreciate your help here, but I think I’m missing something.

A menu is just a menu isn’t it? When you set a menu as the primary menu, it sits up in the header. How would you have a different menu for the other pages?

Sorry if I’m missing the obvious here.

Hello @billy.rooney,

Thanks for updating thread.

It’s very much possible to have complete different menu for rest of pages. You can take advantage of plugins like Conditional Menus, Page Specific Menu Items or Different Menu in Different Pages. I found a tutorial on YouTube for Conditional Menu plugin. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37uuUW-6L7s

I can see that you have Pro Theme licence. In Pro header builder has this function built in wherein you can select different menu on specific page. https://screencast.com/t/aIHxPFEFd

Thanks.

Oh Wow!

That is insanely helpful support, complete with Youtube instruction video. You’re amazing! Thank you so so much.

You’re most welcome.
