Menu Issues while Updating in backend

We have run into a strange menu-bug of some sort twice now, and have no idea where to look for answers.

We are using default Appearance>Menus to create/manage, and in addition to the standard Header/Footer, we have created several “Guide Menus”…these are placed into our site in a vertical side-bar (column) using the Pro Element “Navigation Layered”.

We have encountered that when editing/updating these “Guide Menus” in the backend (adding/arranging new subitems) - the content previously saved in the menu will disappear.

The last time we saw this…we were in the process of adding new sub-items to the menu (from Appear>Menu), but had not even saved those updates…and the live menu on the site had already removed about (4) parent items & all of their child items.

These are not small menus, and there is no clean way to backup/fix the issue when this happens…we basically just have to recreate them (and hope that we didn’t forget any content that was previously there).

WP Login is below, and we can provide SFTP if you want to inspect at that level – any help would be appreciated.

Hello @b-lynk,

Thanks for writing in!

It appears that you are using an older version of WordPress and there are several plugins that needs to be up dated. Please keep in mind that out dated WP, theme or plugins may create issues in your site. Kindly make sure that all of them is up to date first.

And then, you might need to increase your PHP time limit:

You may need to check also if you have meet the requirements to run the latest WordPress which can be found here:

Agreed - I didn’t think to mention this in my first post, but we do actually have a fully updated clone of the production instance I linked previously.

This server is WP optimized, our WP version + plugins are all up-to-date…and we still ran into the same Menu Issue on this instance.

Hi @b-lynk,

May I know how to reproduce this issue? I checked but couldn’t reproduce the issue from your site. Though, I can’t check the staging since the login credentials won’t work there.

There are two possible reason

  1. Host related and could be database specific, which maybe resetting your data
  2. There are multiple tabs open editing the same menu and saved overwriting the changes from another. Or multiple users are editing the same menu.

I myself couldn’t provide further information or recommendation as I’m not sure how to reproduce this issue, plus, the theme has no direct integration on how the menu are saved or edited. It’s all managed by Wordpress, the only integration with the theme on menu are icons and of course the styling for design, but none for the database.

Thanks!
