Logo Image Size

I am confused about the size of the logo image that I should upload. I want it to look good on my website, and I also want it to be retina ready. If I remember correctly, the old version of X several years ago had the option to upload 2 images (regular size logo and a larger logo for retina ready), but now there is only 1 logo that can be uploaded. The information written in the theme options doesn’t mention how this works clearly, and I want to make sure I use the optimal size for both the website and retina ready.

Am I supposed to make a logo image twice the size that I want to show on my website? The logo will appear too large, so am I supposed to put a size in the Logo Width field that looks better (even though the info section says to put the size of the logo there)?

Here is what I did:
I made a logo that is 920px width (since that should be a large size for retina). But that logo was showing way too big in my header. So I typed 420px in the Logo Width field since the size showing on my website looked better (except now the edges of the logo in my header look rough/pixelated instead of smooth). When I right-click on the logo properties on my website’s header, it says the image showing is 210px wide. This makes me think the logo size for my website should be 210px width.

Should I make my logo image being uploaded 420px wide and enter 420px in the Logo Width field (or will that show up too big in my header)? Or should I make the logo image being uploaded 210px wide (but will that be too small for retina ready)? I don’t know how the retina ready works.

I hope this made sense. Please help… thanks!
