I’m having trouble migrating my localhost content to our live site. We changed the theme to X theme and now have cornerstone and all that so it’s much more complicated. I’ve used WP Migrate DB to find //www.ab-net.us --> replace //localhost:8888. I exported it but haven’t imported anything yet. But now I can’t login to to my localhost:8888 server to edit in wordpress. I’m really not sure if I switched them up. Also the browser isn’t secure now so I don’t know what happened. Some guidance would be much appreciated. I can access the phpAdmin for both databases so maybe I can still fix this. I’m using mamp with all the new content of what we want the website to look like but we don’t want to overwrite content that’s currently on our live (ab-net.us). Just want everything transferred over correctly where my sections, css are still there from editing in cornerstone. I am very confused.
Hi There,
Thank you for writing in, but I am not entirely certain of what do you mean on this part, please clarify.
Did you follow the instruction provide here? if not, please redo your migration process and follow that guide.
I advice you setup a virtual host on your localhost, and try to migrate there first (localhost -> virtual host). This way you can test to migrate the site in a live domain without actually touching the live site.
Cheers!
We have a site ab-net.us that we want to revamp with a new theme (the X theme) and it’s all setup in the localhost. That has all the content we want our live site to have but we wanted to test it out first on a local server. We are confused about how to transfer all the content without anything being overwritten on the live site. Even importing has failed on many files. I followed the steps in cornerstone migration but think maybe something got corrupted so I am afraid to use a plugin again. I can’t login to the localhost wordpress because I lost database connection. I don’t want to risk uninstalling mamp and losing all that work in creating the website. The aspect of cornerstone seems more complicated to migrate to a live site than older themes because all the editing was done in the cornerstone editor, including the css. I’ve never heard of the virtual host. I can look into it but I think professional development help would be more suitable for us so there are no other mistakes. Thank you for your help!
Hi there,
Thanks for the info.
If you are looking into revamping a live site and doing the development locally, I would suggest that you download a copy of your live site then you can set it up locally and start with the development. Doing this would ensure that the contents of the live site would match the content of the new site provided that you are not making an changes on the live site during the development.
Are you getting the error in establishing a database connection? Kindly check the database settings that you have indicated in the wp-config.php file.
How do you download a copy of the live site? I know I have exported all the content as an xml file for a backup but from my experience, the importing fails on many files so I don’t trust it. Even trying to transfer the new website to the current one, the importing didn’t work very well. How would I setup a local of the live site if I already have Mamp with one site? There would still be an issue of transferring from local to live. It’s not easy and we’re not very knowledgeable in this.
The wp-config.php file I think is fine:
It’s in the wordpress file where the document root is in Mamp but I don’t see it in phpMyAdmin. Is that a problem?
Hi there,
You can simple download all the files of the site through FTP or CPanel then export the database in the PhpMyAdmin of the live site.
You can find a guide here.
You can always run more than one site on MAMP. Please follow this guide.
It would be best if you seek help from someone who is more knowledgeable on this like a developer so that the importing and exporting of the site will be quicker.
Hope this gets you started.
Thank you for the help! Do you know a developer I can reach? I emailed pinnacle@theme.co but haven’t gotten a response. A phone number would be great to talk to someone directly or another development team that is knowledgeable in the subject. Even the X theme support just told me to use this forum.
We definitely want to keep going forward with this. If you have any recommendations of who to contact, it would be greatly appreciated!
Hi Maria,
I’ve emailed you directly regarding this. I apologize for the delay. Just to clarify, we do not offer theme support by phone but my email to you has outlined a couple of ways to move forward.
Thanks!
