License not allocated, but says cannot use

We have 2 licenses, for prod and staging. We just successfully transferred one for production.

However, the 2nd indicates it is not allocated, but attempting to validate the license on the 2nd site, I get the message “Your code is valid but looks like it has already been used on another site. You can revoke and re-assign within your Themeco account.” However, the Theme.co dashboard indicates no allocation, and no ability to revoke or reassign.

Please advise.

Hi,

You can revoke license in your wordpress dashboard under X > Validation or Pro > Validation

I understand that, but there is no instance of WP w/Pro running that is using this license. We have exactly 2 instances, production and stage, with Pro license installed. Production has been registered correctly, but Stage is complaining as though it is registered elsewhere – but it is not, and never has been to my knowledge.

Can you administratively deregister this license to allow me to use?

Hi There,

Head over to your Themeco License page and click on the key icon to complete the license transfer. Then you should be able to use the license key to validate your site.

Hope that helps.

Please re-read my original message that said “However, the Theme.co dashboard indicates no allocation, and no ability to revoke or reassign.”, ie all this was already checked, which is why I opened a ticket.

For the first license listed (Theme.co), we have already clicked the key to complete the transfer – twice since yesterday. No change in status.

For the 2nd license listed (ThemeForest), no allocation or registration is listed, but using it still generates the “Your code is valid but looks like it has already been used on another site” message.

Hi there,

I can appreciate the frustration and I apologize for any confusion, but I think we can clear this up.

I believe that the confusion arises from a misunderstanding regarding usage of the license. Let me explain. You only have one license, not two, but that one license can be used across two urls, enabling you to utilise it on both your production and staging environment. The original ThemeForest license is no longer valid because it was converted to a Themeco license when you converted from X to Pro.

I suspect that you are looking at the original ThemeForest license on the same line as the space for the staging url, believing that you should use that license for that environment. That’s not correct. All you need to do is enter the Themeco license again in the staging environment, and it should work just fine.

Hope this helps, and have a great day.

Thank you for the clarification. Having both listed on the license page is a bit misleading.

I tried the converted Theme.co license as well (ie license starting with 3ec9) and get the same message - “Your code is valid but looks like it has already been used on another site”. I tried this license with both the staging field empty and completed with the url of our staging server, neither worked.

Any update on this? I still am unable to license our stage site properly, which is restricting my progress.

Please advise.

Hey there,

In that case, can you please provide us with WordPress login credentials to both your main site and staging site, so that we can examine this more closely. Kindly add the following in a secure note (by clicking the little key icon at the bottom of your post):

  • Staging site login url
  • Staging site username
  • Staging site password
  • Main site login url
  • Main site username (if different)
  • Main site password (if different)

We’ll then take a look and get back to you.

Thanks!

Details requested are (hidden) below. Please note that we restrict our stage site and access to wp-admin/wp-login on our production by IP whitelist, which has been disabled just for the time period you need to do this. Please notify me ASAP when your actions are completed, so the security policies can be reenabled.

Hello There,

Thanks for writing in! One thing to remember is that the ThemeForest license can only be used to validate X theme and the Themeco license will need to be used to validate Pro theme. Since both of your staging and live site is using Pro, you will need to lock the Themeco license first before you can use it. (You can unlock it later on if you want to transfer this license to another user).

So I went ahead and locked the licenses. I validated the staging site and you are all set.

If you need anything else we can help you with, don’t hesitate to open another thread.

Thanks! I did try locking and unlocking the license (both were failing), and with and without the stage host completed (both were failing). What else did you need to do to enable this?

Hey There,

That’s all I did. I locked the Themeco license and validated the staging site.

Strange that it did not work for me. In any case, glad its fixed. You can close this case.

No problem.
