Lean Version of PRO?

I remeber about a year ago a “Lean” version of PRO, in terms of code, was going to be released.

2 Questions:

  • When is the release date? Assuming this is still happening.
  • Will we be able to migrate old sites on PRO to this new leaner version? Assuming there will be a loading speed increase.

Thanks

Hey Riceman,

Thanks for writing in! We will ask our developer for a better response to this version. As for the moment, you can use the Starter or Blank stack if you want to increase the loading speed when using the Pro or the X themes.

Best Regards.

Thanks, looking forward to this!

You are most welcome.

Depending on when you heard that, those developers are no longer here and the direction has changed. You won’t see a huge rewrite into a “Lean” version. Through Theme Options and other controls we will give you the tools to get a very refined output in your site. Like Ruenel said, The starter and blank stack is going to have the least amount of CSS and will also not overwrite the default templates of plugins like WooCommerce. Using SVG as your FontAwesome output will also reduce the output of the frontend. From there we’ll be finishing the jQuery removal and give you the option to include or not include it on your site. Then options to remove the block library CSS and JS since we don’t use that directly. Eventually the goal is an output of 200-500kb for the starter site. So in other words you won’t see a lean version directly for Pro, but a continual movement towards a better site output. Hope this answers your question. Have a great day.

@charlie

Thanks! Your explanation helps a ton, and is good news. I just created my first site with the Starter Stack, and look forward to upcoming features.

Is it as simple as just switching stacks on existing sites? i have a lot. I just tried on a dev site and the only thing I had to fix was the global paragraph line-height.

Happy this jives with you. It’s sort of as easy as switching stacks. If you are using the other stacks output of WooCommerce, BBPress, BuddyPress, or the X Headers then switching to the starter will definitely change the site look. If you use custom layouts for everything and everything is built with CS, then it really should just be that easy. I would just run through a lot of your pages when you do a switch.

Ill switch on a dev platform for larger sites. Looking forward to reducing the weight of my sites. Thanks again!
