Layout/fonts messed up after update

How can I update theme without messing up layout/fonts?

I’ve read some other posts that suggest an issue with cornerstone version; I’ve also tried updating theme without cornerstone, but fonts are wrong after updating theme.
See attached screenshot of where I’m at prior to updating. If someone could offer some guidance on what steps are required to allow theme update that will not result in new layout/font issues.

Thank you.

Hello @mbjarvie,

Thanks for writing in! It is best that you set up a staging site first and then do these updates in the staging. This helps you prevent any untoward issues and conflicts in your live site. This is also a way to test how these new updates works with your site. Troubleshooting can also be done here in the staging area without affecting the live site. Best Regards.

Thank you for your reply. I have already updated on a ‘test site’ and have subsequently ‘rolled back’ the site. I am looking for guidance on how to avoid the layout issues described in original post. Can you assist?

PS - I have also done as you have suggested an setup a staging site for all future attempts at updating.

Hi @mbjarvie,

If you have already set up a staging environment, I would suggest you update the Theme there first and if everything goes fine migrate the staging to the live server. Now coming to the layout issue, I would request you check your staging server after updating the Theme and if the issue still exists, please provide login credentials for your staging site in a secure note to examine it further, including:

– WordPress Site URL & Login URL
– WordPress Admin username/password

To create a secure note, click the key icon underneath any of your posts.

NOTE: Please provide any screenshot or video which helps to recognize the problem.

Thanks

issue still present - secure note added here. Thanks.

Hi again,
Any update?

Hello @mbjarvie,

Thanks for sharing the login details I went ahead and checked your settings it seems that there might be an issue with version compatibility since you have installed the latest version of the X theme 10.4.8 and older version of the Cornerstone 6.1.4.

I would suggest you please update the Cornerstone plugin to the latest version which is 7.4.8 to avoid the version compatibility issue. After updating the plugin you need to purge all the cache from the Cornerstone—>settings—>System—> Clear System Cache.

Hope it helps
Thanks

Thanks very much for your reply and suggestion! I have now updated cornerstone and flushed cache. Fonts look corect, however layout is now messed up (no longer full width - see screenshot).

Can you suggest what’s next to rectify? Thanks again!

Hello @mbjarvie,

I checked your site it seems that it is working fine on my end. It might be the issue of browser cache I would suggest you please clear your browser cache and recheck it. I have tested it on the Google Chrome browser version 120.0.6099.216.

In case you want to increase the site layout width I would suggest you go to the Cornerstone —>Theme Options—>Layout and design—>Site Max width -->set the layout width there.

Hope it helps
Thanks

Thanks, however, is it possible you’ve checked the live site, and not the new staging site.

Hello @mbjarvie,

It seems that you were using the older version of WordPress (5.6.12) which was causing the error on your site. I went ahead and updated the WordPress to the 6.4.2 version and the site is working fine. Please check your site.

Thanks

Thanks! That’s great. I hadn’t updated wordpress as had always read to update plugins/themes first. Layout issue does look resolved but still have the font issue - see earlier post showing difference. Any thoughts?

Hello @mbjarvie,

It seems that there is an issue with the cache I went ahead and purged all the cache from the Cornerstone—>Settings—> Clear System Cache

Please check your site now.

Thanks

Brilliant! Thanks very much for all your help!

You are most welcome @mbjarvie

Hi again,
ARGH! Of course, now I’ve done this on the main site, even after flushing caches (plug-ins, browser & wordpress), the fonts are still incorrect, as before. Could you kindly take a look for me? Thanks for bearing with us here!

Hello @mbjarvie,

I checked your site it seems that it might be the issue of cache, I went ahead and set the Permalink to Plain and then reset it to the Post name. I also clear the cache from the Cornerstone—>Settings—> Clear System Cache Please check your site now.

Thanks
