Layout Builder, using the "The Excerpt" Element

Does the “The Excerpt” Element use the “the_excerpt()” function built into WordPress? I ask because I’ve attempted to use the “Advanced Excerpt” plugin to tweak my excerpts to allow <p>tags and other formatting and it doesn’t apply to the the use of the element in the Layout Builder.

Is there a way to use the “The Excerpt” Element and customize its output to allow <p> and such?

Alternatively, in case you want to wrap the excerpt with a paragraph tag or other tag you can use any element like the Headline element or Text element where you need to set the default tag.
