Layout Builder: support for search results page?

Hey guys,

I realise the new Layout Builder is still in development, and I was wondering if you could share any details about it with us?

I’m interested in improving the way search results are presented, especially for Pages returned as a search result item (currently, no Feature Image, and no easy way to control the text content presented for the page in that search result).

I will probably go and write my own search.php template, but that idea made me wonder about the Layout Builder.

I don’t need to do this work just yet, so please let me know if you think it’s worth waiting for the new release?

Hi Adam,

You will have options at hand to change the view of the search page using the Layout Builder. But it will be only the view, so you will be able to add thumbnails for example, but you will not be able to change the nature of the search itself.

For example, with few hooks, you can limit the search results to show only posts or maybe a custom post type results only, that will not be possible with the layout builder and you will still need coding.

So in general, it will be a layout builder and not a logic changing tool.

But please consider that we are now focused on the new website release which should be in late April or so. Then we are going to focus on the layout builder, so it will take time and I suggest that you proceed with the search.php file customization for your current project.
