I have built three different layout assignments. One for Single Posts, one for the Month archive and one for the Year archive. Only the Month archive one is taking effect.
Hello Jansen,
Thanks for writing in! I have investigated the issue and you are having this issue because you have not yet assigned a blog page or Posts Page in Settings > Reading > Your Homepage Displays.
You need to assign the “Blog” page as your Posts page. And then in Settings > Permalinks, you must remove the /blog/ in the custom URL. It should only be /%year%/%monthnum%/%postname%/ to prevent any slug conflict.
Kindly let us know how it goes.
I have tried doing that and the layout is still only applying to my month page archive.
Hey Jansen,
Applying a layout to the year archive works in my test site. That means the Assignment feature generally works.
It is mysterious that it doesn’t work on your site. I deactivated all plugins and reinstalled Pro but still the issue persists.
The only major difference between my test site and yours is the PHP version. You’re using PHP 8 while I’m using PHP 7.4. Please try downgrading to PHP 7.4 just to see if that will fix the issue.
Thanks.
Hi, thank you for the suggestion. I downgraded to PHP 7.4 and that still did not work. Is there a way to set the template through the functions file? I do not understand why it is working for the months but nothing else.
Hi Jansen,
I have checked and found the issue still exists, there might be some different reasons behind your issue. I would like to suggest troubleshooting the following common issue to help us to recognize the reason.
- Theme Related Issue
- Plugin Conflict
- Theme Update related issue
- Child Theme Related issue
- CSS/JS Customization
- Disabling Cache
- Disabling CDN
If you discover that an issue is coming from a custom code or 3rd party plugin, kindly consult with a developer or contact the plugin author. Please note that we do not provide support for custom codes and 3rd party plugins.
If none of the above help, please copy your live site to a staging server so we could troubleshoot freely without breaking your live site.
And give us access to the secure note including:
– WordPress Site URL & Login URL
– WordPress Admin username/password
To create a secure note, click the key icon underneath any of your posts.
NOTE: Please confirm if the current one is your staging server
Thanks
This current one is the staging site. I have checked to confirm the issue is not from a 3rd party source.
Hey Jansen,
We didn’t do anything, but mysteriously, your Year archive now works. The layout is applied (see secure note).
My guess is that it could be your server’s cache now cleared. If this happens again, please reach out to your web host to clear all caches.
Thanks.
