Jquery update for bootstrap plugin?

Hello. I am using a calculator plugin that isn’t working. I reached out to the plugin support and got this response:

“Looks like issue caused by outdated jQuery version.
Your current theme uses jQuery version 1.8.3, for correct work Bootstrap framework requires 1.9.1 or higher”

Is this something I can update myself, or do I ned to wait for an x update? Or is there a way to fix this?

Thanks for writing in! Please be advise that the jQuery used in the theme is coming from the WordPress core. Please make sure that you are using WordPress core 5.3.2 along with X Theme 7.1.2, Cornerstone 4.1.2 or Pro Theme 3.1.2. If you really want to change the jQuery version of the WordPress core, please check out this link:

Everything seems up to date. Does this mean I need to change the jQuery version of the wordpress core? Why would wordpress use an outdated version?
