Jerky, slow to trigger scroll animations on ipad

Hi there, see this site: https://staging.earthlingsecurity.com/ and this video:

The scroll animation on my pc, and android phone are smooth, but on my ipad, they look terrible…

Ipad info: ios v 16.7.11, 5th generation.

** All theme and plugins are 100% up to date. And I disabled all of them whilst doing this test.

Thanks for posting in! I noticed that you have WP Rocket plugin installed. I would highly recommend that you temporarily disable the plugin while you are troubleshooting the issue. For more troubleshooting guide, please check this:

As I said, I disabled any and all plugins whilst testing. The issue was still there.

This basically uses exactly the same setup as another site (logoglo.com) which animates smoothly.

It mirrors asset clean up pro settings, wprocket settings and cloudflare settings.

Its a mystery as to why it does it even after I disable all plugins, and empty the cache etc…

Hey Oriol,

Thank you for comparing the site to your other site. That gives us more ideas.

I noticed that the site having the problem has more animated elements than the other one. Please note that too much animation can slow down the page. Animations should be used sparingly.

With that said, please try copying your page and in the copy, deleted sections one by one while testing if the animation will be smooth each time.

I tested like you said, and it just seams janky all the time, even if its just 2 sections.

In that case, please provide the following info in a Secure Note and we’ll investigate some more.

  1. URL of the page with the 2 sections
  2. WP admin access

It looks like it’s the section with the video background that is slowing down the page. Can you try removing the section with the video background?

I feel a little bit of the run around here guys, I have already said, that even without the video section up top, its still janky as hell…as you guys are testing the video loading too, please see this page:

Even on pages where there is no video, its janky.

Hey @oriol,

Comparing the site that works with your earthling site, what I found is your earthling site has nested rows. Please try not nesting elements because even if you have just 2 sections, it creates a lot of nodes and it might slow down JS effects.

Thanks, however, there are other pages without this structure that is still has the janky animations…for example:

And I find it strange how its smooth everywhere else, iphone, andrroid phones, desktop, laptop, macs, safari, chrome, but not on the ipad…

How are the animations implemented? so if this doesnt get fixed, I can just disable them for ipads.
