Issues with new theme and cornerstone update

Hi. I updated our theme (X) today and also Cornerstone. Once the updates were complete our website freaked out. The navigation and website itself is a mess. I’m not sure what to do to fix it. It happen right after the update. Please advise.

As soon as I had updated both Cornerstone and X and tried to visit the site I got a message saying “fatal error.” I am able to get into our admin panel but there is nothing odd going on there.

Hi @Scriptorium,

The issue you specified may be due to the improper up-gradation of Cornerstone, sometimes upgrading the Cornerstone directly from the plugin causing the issue. I would recommend you to update the X theme to the recent version i.e 8.0.10, which has some issues already fixed. I would suggest you follow the below steps while updating to the latest version of the theme.

  1. Delete the Cornerstone
  2. Update the X theme to the latest version on automatic updates
  3. After the X theme is updated, use the link in the dashboard to automatically install the Cornerstone. It will be at the latest version

If that does not resolve your issue, please provide the credentials for your site to check. Please note that the URL listed in your Themeco account dashboard is not accessible.

Thanks

@tristup I just realized I am having similar issues with another site that does not use the same theme or cornerstone. Please wait to log in. I am trying to connect with my host.

@tristup I have resolved the issue. Another plugin was causing it. I hadn’t updated it yet so I was thinking there was a problem with my theme update. Apologies. You can close this ticket!

Glad to hear that, @Script0rium

I run a large Military site in the UK and have an issue where after an X and Cornerstone update I just have a black spinning disc when trying to start Cornerstone. I have turned off all the plugins to check for a plugin issue, and also cleared all Caches etc, Nothing seems to be working, also the update seemed to have rearranged the home page. the site is https://www.forcesonline.org.uk We keep everything fully up to date… It uses a Child Theme. Looking at you possible solution with deleting Cornerstone above will all the element on the site be okay when I update the cornerstone?

Hello @lenchappell,

Thanks for writing to us.

It is always a good practice to have a backup of the files and database of the site when you update any plugin or theme or deleting any plugin from the site.

Yes, your Cornerstone element will be there in the page content since it has been already saved in the database as in the shortcode formates but to be on the safe side I would suggest you to have a backup of your site before updating and deleting the plugin and theme.

In case after updating the plugin doesn’t work for you it would be best if you can copy live site to a staging server and send us your credentials in a secure note so we can investigate your settings without breaking your live site. I would also recommend you to open a new thread and post your details with your credentials.

Thanks

I am setting up the staging server then I will be in contact.

Hi @lenchappell,

Let us know once the staging is ready to access.

Thanks
