Issues with header layout on older tablet devices

Hi! I’m working on a site with customised header displays and layouts for large desktops, smaller screens & tablets, and small mobile phone screens.

Everything looks great on newer browsers and devices but I’ve been trying to troubleshoot getting the header to display as intended on older tablet browsers and devices and am having no luck.

I’m attaching snapshots of tests run (through CrossBrowserTesting’s site) on iPad Air2, Mobile Safari Browser 8.1 (where the header layout isn’t working), and iPad Air2, Mobile Safari Browser 9 (where it is working).

Any advice for best practice for older browsers would be gratefully received!
