Issue with Pro header - gaps appear when you scroll down the page

Hi, I’m using Pro and created a header with a global block - I’ve done this a few times on other sites and never come across this issue - when you scroll down the Home page, the header moves down and a gap appears above and below it! It’s a sticky header for screen sizes larger than a tablet, so the smaller size screens don’t have this issue as the header isn’t sticky. I have no idea how to correct this. The weird thing is, when you click on another page it doesn’t do it! Then if you go back to the Home page, it doesn’t do it, you have to clear your cache for it to happen again, it’s very odd!

Here’s 2 screen grabs, one before scrolling down (how it should look) and then one after scrolling down - I’ve marked up where the gaps are!

Hope you can help! I’ll put the admin info in a secure note just incase you need to have access to it to find out what the issue is!

Thanks!

Hello @core365,

Thanks for writing to us.

I checked your site it seems that there is no gap on the header while scrolling. It seems that you have fixed it or it might be the issue of browser cache at your end. I would suggest you clear your browser cache and then check it again. It will be best if you could check it in the private mode of the browser.

Thanks

Hi @prakash_s,

I haven’t fixed it, the issue with the gaps is still definitely there for me - I’ve just cleared my cache again to check - and it occurs on my mac and PC. I checked in private browser mode before contacting yourselves and the issue is the same in there too!

Thanks

Hello @core365,

I can not replicate the issue at my end. I have checked on Google Chrome(Version 93.0.4577.63) and Mozilla Firefox(Version 91.0.2). Can you please let us know which browser you are using? Please let us know the version as well.

Thanks

Hi @prakash_s,

Thanks for checking and I appreciate you supplying the video! On both my mac and PC, the version of Google Chrome used is Version 92.0.4515.159

Thanks!

Hi @core365,

I suspect this could be just a browser version issue because I also can’t replicate the issue on my end. It would be best if you could update your google chrome version to 93.0.4577.63 and let us know how it goes.

Thank you.

Hi @marc_a,

That might be one way around the issue, but you can’t assume that everyone will have the current updated browser version, so I think it’s more important to try and solve the issue that’s presenting using the version of Chrome I am currently using would it not?

Thanks

Hey @core365,

We support only what WordPress supports and that is the last 2 version of the browser. Version 92 is discontinued now.

Anyway, my colleagues most probably tested when they’re logged in where the issue doesn’t happen. When logged out or using incognito mode, I see the issue.

Because it happens when logged out only, I suspect the issue is with caching. Please clear all caches and deactivate your caching plugin then test again.

Also, try the following:

  1. Update Pro to the latest version
  2. Activate the parent theme
  3. Deactivate all 3rd party plugins

Please try all that before we continue investigating if none of that works.

Thanks.

Hi @christian,

It seems as though it’s an intermittent issue. I’m not going to update Pro to the latest version as I did that already to 3 of my other websites and I had to revert back to the previous version as the vertical scroll bar in Cornerstone wasn’t working properly after the update, it kept showing up the ruler along the bottom of the screen whenever I tried to scroll. I’ve already asked about this in a previous post!

I created a staging site and activated the parent theme and also deactivated the plugins and then tried to see if it was one in particular that was causing the issue, but seeing as it seems to be intermittent, there’s no way of properly finding out what is causing it, so I’m just going to have to leave it and hope that everyone else who views the site all have the latest browser updates.

Thanks

Hi @core365,

I have checked your site into the updated version of the browser and it worked perfectly fine.

Thanks

Hi @tristup,

Ok, thanks for checking, I appreciate it!

Cheers
