So I’m having a big issue with cornerstone when used with SSL; the moment the site is served up with HTTPS, trying to edit a page via cornerstone, simply does not work, though once I access cornerstone via HTTP everything is fine.

This means you have not completed your SSL setup because as you said, it works when you’re on HTTP resources are served from an HTTP URL which is not allowed when you’re in HTTPS. Please contact your web host to correct your SSL setup. Basically, everything HTTP must be redirected to HTTPS.
