Is it safe to update?

Pardon my ignorance here… I have one site that I built many years ago and will likely be retiring soon. It is still on X version 7.2.3 and was built (for whatever reason I no longer remember) using a Child theme. It has always had auto-updated turned OFF! Is it safe to update X and Cornerstone, or will my use of a child theme based on such an old version cause problems? [Concern is based on recent malware infection, now cleaned. No idea if intruders use a theme exploit, but I’m sure running such outdated code is a bad idea]

Hey @hbelkin,

Thanks for reaching out!

The safest way to update your website is to clone it into a staging area. In the staging area, you can update your website without worrying about any broken issue on your live website. Once you can confirm on your end that it is working well in the staging area after you upgrade everything, then you can clone again the data of your staging area to your live website.

Hope that helps.

its not safe.

Hi @ywoolf,

Sorry to hear that. But I would suggest you follow the way my colleague Marc suggested.

Thanks

Yes – for sure.

I’m looking forward to updating once the bugs are ironed out. Where can we report bugs?

In my experience - it is NOT safe.

Hey @ywoolf,

If you find any bug, you can just create a forum ticket so that our developer will check on it.

Thank you.
