Installing Ethos Magazine installs content but no layouts

Hi. I’m upgrading an old site and installed the current version of Pro + ProChild. I want to start with the Ethos Magazine site template. But when I install it, it seems to install all the content, but no layouts or page templates (no Home, etc.). I don’t see any warnings that anything didn’t install, but just in case, I upped my php limits to those spec’d by you in other posts and installed again. Same result.

What am I missing? Shouldn’t the install include base layouts, etc? thanks!

Hello @mgiraud,

Thanks for writing to us.

It seems that you have imported the demo content multiple times just because you have a broken menu layout, You need to go to the menu and remove the menu items to get the menu layout. For the homepage content section, you need to go to the cornerstone—>Theme option —>enter the category IDs to display the posts here on the front page.

Hope it helps
Thanks

Thanks for this, I’ll explore that.

But there aren’t any header, footer, single or archive layouts with the site download. Shouldn’t there be? How do you edit/modify/assign those…?

Or to put it another way, are these site templates NOT meant to be significantly modified? That is, structurally in the way you can by modifying a layout in Cornerstone?

Hello Matt,

The Ethos Magazine uses the default header, footer, and archive layouts built-in with the theme for the Ethos stack. You will have to create your own custom header, footer, or archive layouts if you want to modify them. The Layout Builders in Cornerstone should be able to help you create layouts.

Best Regards.

Thanks for this. So to be clear, if I want to modify any of the core layouts I need to rebuild them from scratch? If there’s a way to ‘extract’ those layouts from the built-in, can you share it?

I get that these site templates are mostly for a plug and play use case, but they’d be really useful if they came with modifiable components – so you can use them as a starting point to save gobs of time. (That was what I was hoping to do)

Thanks again

Hello Matt,

If you want to tweak something for the header, footer or blog and archive layouts, there is a few options that you can use in the Cornerstone > Theme Options.

Modifying the look and feel or the layout of the default header, default footer or the layouts, you will have to built it from scratch.

Only the demos in the Personify have the modifiable components.

Cheers.

Ah, got it. Thanks, Rue.

You are most welcome Matt.
