Incompatibility with "Name Your Price" Plugin

I recently purchased the “official” (meaning hosted on woocommerce.com) WooComm plugin “Name Your Price” and for some reason, no matter what price you specify on the product page, the cart always just reverts it to the minimum price set in the back end.

I tested by disabling Pro on a staging server (leaving all other plugins active) and lo and behold, it worked fine.

I can provide access to a staging server for troubleshooting, if necessary.

Thanks for any help!

Hello @BEAUTYSHOTS,

For third party plugins, we recommend our users to get in touch directly with the plugin developer due to the fact that there is simply no way to account for all of the potential variables at play when using another developer’s plugin or script. Because of this, any questions you have regarding setup, integration, or troubleshooting any piece of functionality that is not native to X will need to be directed to the original developer.

We can try and have a look if you can provide us the login access to the site in a Secure Note. However, please note that as this is a third party plugin, we cannot promise to be able to provide a concrete solution.

Thank you for your understanding.

Here’s the reply from the developer herself:

Hi Alexander,

We definitely understand that X/Pro is a popular WordPress theme. Many WordPress themes that are not specifically designed for WooCommerce may not work well with some of the WooCommerce core features or WooCommerce official extensions such as Name Your Price. Themes that intentionally modify default WooCommerce behavior also risk creating these kinds of incompatibilities with extensions.

On our side, we routinely help with resolving compatibility issues that affect our extension – either by modifying our code or providing tips to other teams. Our top priority are issues with official WooCommerce extensions – however, we also assist with issues with third-party products even if this is not covered under the WooCommerce.com support policy.

Based on the details you shared so far, it is not technically possible to resolve this issue by adding code exclusively on our side. Instead, it is necessary to work closely with your theme authors to come up with a solution. To do that we need to:

- open a channel of communication between the two sides… you can have them reach out to me at support@kathyisawesome.com
- write code on both sides;
- maintain a close relationship to ensure the two codebases will work together in the foreseeable future.

This can be a time-consuming process so we don’t expect that we have a solution within a couple of days. However, we’d be happy to consider any suggestions your theme authors make as soon as possible.

I’m also happy to provide admin access to my staging server to check this out further. Let me know how to get you the login details.

Hello @BEAUTYSHOTS,

I have forwarded this thread to one of our developers.
He will respond to this shortly.

Please bear with us.

Any update? I really want to get this working on my site ASAP. Do you want me to provide access to my staging server?

Hello @BEAUTYSHOTS,

Your thread has been forwarded to our developers.
I will follow up to get his reply on this.

Thanks.

Hi @BEAUTYSHOTS,

I like to further check it, would you mind providing your site’s login credentials in the secure note? Perhaps please provide a download link of the said plugin so we can investigate it. So we may have the idea of the issue that we may able to consider if we need to contact the plugin developer.

Thanks!

Sorry, I’m not receiving notifications that someone answered the thread.

The plugin URL is: https://woocommerce.com/products/name-your-price/

I’ll provide access to my staging server in a private note.

Hi @BEAUTYSHOTS,

Thanks for the credentials. I can confirm that there is a possible conflict, would you mind providing a download link of the said plugin for faster investigation? Your current staging site is quite slow, plus, there is no way for me to check the files for code inspection. The provided URL is the plugin link, but there is no download in it.

You can upload the plugin to any file hosting like dropbox and add the download URL in the secure note. We’ll see if this easy to fix or need further integration.

Thanks!

Honestly, I don’t feel comfortable uploading and sharing copyrighted content, I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t want me to share X with random developers without your permission either.

Please contact the plugin developer directly, I have provided the contact details above and she seems more than willing to work with Themeco to ensure compatibility.

In addition, can we move this to a support ticket? I am not getting any updates to this thread via email or otherwise and I can’t log in every day to check whether someone has replied.

Hi @BEAUTYSHOTS,

Sure, no problem and we could do that. I just can’t promise any immediate or temporary workaround about this issue, please stay tuned for future updates.

About email notification, have your checked your spam folders? We’ll check that as well.

Thanks!

Hi @BEAUTYSHOTS,

I’m able to get a copy of the plugin from the developer and we have discussed the issue but unable to reproduce the issue your site is having. In all my tests, the prices are correctly displaying while Pro theme is active, instead of displaying just the minimum price.

This means the issue is not the name of your price plugin nor the Pro theme. It’s only specific to your site, but I’ll continue checking and I may still need to investigate the files directly that would require FTP access. But given that I can’t get any copy of it for testing, then I’m only limited to what’s already provided. I’ll let you know once I find something.

I’m providing a test URL in the secure note where it’s working properly.

Thanks!

Hi there,

Wow, that is super strange…to test the plugin on my staging site I have now disabled all the other active plugins besides WooCommerce and it is still adjusting the price at the end of the checkout process.

I am going to investigate further, maybe I have made some other customizations somewhere in the templates or functions.php that are affecting this functionality.

Thanks for the help so far!

Edit: SORRY! I realized that my web developer had added some site-wide javascript to the Theme Options a long time ago to customize the add to cart icon. Apparently this was changing the price for some reason. I have removed this bit of code and everything is working as designed.

Sorry for wasting your time with this!

No worries, @BEAUTYSHOTS. Glad you figured it out.
