Image sizes for site structure

Hi Guys, I used X for a site years ago but now need to get back in the swing of it.

Are there any best practises for image height and width? I know how to keep the Kb to a min but how do you all deal with sizes of images on your sites?
I was thinking I would categories my images into different shapes according to where they are used, I.e background image should be 1200px wide?
A Square logo should be what size for the header?
Woo product images ect.

I remember X in the old days had templates with the pixel dimensions detailed on the template images, was very handy indeed!
There must be some sort of online resource for newbies like me?
Or is it just trial and error?
Thanks

All the best

Ben

Hi Ben,

Thank you for reaching out to us. We don’t provide the image sizes, because they are already dynamically sized based on the options you have set in Customizer. For example, if you lower your site width, new thumbnails for your site will be sized down to that width – this will help speed up the site by not loading images larger than needed.

This dynamic approach to size is what makes the page responsive, and allows to images to be different sizes depending on the device screen size.

I’d suggest you to take look at the guide here https://www.fosterwebmarketing.com/blog/the-best-image-size-for-desktop-and-mobile-websites.cfm this may help you in deciding the best image sizes in certain situation.

Hope this helps!

That’s ace thanks!
I set my site max width to 1200 my site width is set to 75% but moving the slider doesn’t seem to have any effect, is this correct?

So my background images should be 1200 wide when I upload them?

Thanks for your help.

Ben

Hi Ben,

What do you mean by moving the slider doesn’t seem to have any effect? On the other hand, Yes, your background image should be 1200 wide when you upload it to the media library.

Hope that helps.

Thank you.
