Icon blog sidebar

Hello,
I was searching the forum and I seem to be getting different information on being able to add a sidebar to the Icon blog page. If so, how do I do that? I’ve attached screenshots of settings. The page seems to “jump” like there’s an empty sidebar present but there’s no content there. If sidebars are not an option is there a way that someone can search for a category topic?

Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Hey @k3441,

Upon checking, your Content Layout in Theme Options > Layout and Design is Fullwidth. Please set it back to Content / Sidebar like in your screenshot.

I’ve set it to Content / Sidebar while testing and I see the empty sidebar. It is be the Main Sidebar Widget Area that should be showing in there by default but I noticed that in Appearance > Sidebars, you created a widget area (sidebar) for the blog page called News and it contains an empty block. You need to fill the News Widget Area with widgets.

Hope that helps.

Hi Christian,
Thanks so much for the detailed response. I updated all of the layout options and I added the categories to both the News widget and the Main Sidebar and I still don’t see it. Did I miss a step? Hey @k3441,

I think we’re looking at different sites. When I check the site you gave us credentials for, the Layout and Design is still Fullwidth. Please set it to Content / Sidebar.

Putting the widgets in the News Widgets Area is correct. Once all that is done, your sidebar will show up. The screenshot below is taken from the preview.

Thanks.

That’s odd. It was content/sidebar at one point because I was seeing it on all pages except the blog. I went back and fixed it but the blog page in wonky. This is from the live site. You can see the blog posts outlines overlap and the first row has the title all the way to the right so the page looks empty at first glance.

Other questions:
Can I customize the sidebars for different pages?
Can I select which pages the sidebar appears?
I tried to go and play around with it but it looks like WP auto-updated and I can’t see the content of my widgets and when I try to modify them the “Update” button isn’t clickable.

I really appreciate your help!

Hello @k3441,

Can I customize the sidebars for different pages? Can I select which pages the sidebar appears?

  • Assuming that you are using the X theme, you can go to Appearance > Sidebars and then create a custom sidebar. You can then assign this sidebar on which page you would want the sidebar to appear. If you want to modify which widgets you would like to display on this newly created sidebar, you can do to Appearance > Widgets > {newly created sidebar widget area}.

If you are using the Pro theme, you can simply create a custom page layout by dividing your layout with columns allocating the left side or right side for your sidebar. You can use the Widget Area element if you want to display sidebar widgets on a page.

kindly let us know how it goes.

Thank you. I will work on that. Do you have any idea why the top of the blog isn’t displaying properly? Screenshots were attached to last post.

I’m using X theme Ethos.

Hello @k3441,

You are using the Icon stack. Please go to Cornerstone > Theme Options > Headers > Navbar and set the Top Height to 83 pixels instead of 55 because this is what is causing your header issue.

Best Regards.

Hello,
I changed the nav bar to 83 but that does not fix the masonry layout of the blog page. If I use the standard layout it works. The masonry is all over the place.

For those of you who may be looking to have the sidebar on select pages for Icon.
Theme Options > Layout & Design > Content / Sidebar THEN
Go to the individual pages that you DO NOT want the sidebar and go to Page Attributes (the base page before choosing edit with Cornerstone) and change that to Blank Container | then choose your layout option from options listed.

Hi @k3441,

I have investigated your site and found that the Header > Navbar > Position is set to the Fixed Top is the reason behind your issue. Once it is set to the Static Top the problem is solved. I have checked it by deactivating all the plugins and removing all the custom CSS code, but it only worked if that navbar position was set to the Static Top. I have also tried the same setup in my local environment, but the issue can’t be replicated. It seems that it might be with your installation only, I would request you made a fresh installation of the WordPress and the X and check if that still exists or not.

Hope it helps.
Thanks

THANK YOU! That’s exactly what I needed.
