I’m not sure what I did, but it appears that I am unable to view more than half the images on my site. I tried disabling plugins, but I don’t think thats what it is. I turned off my caching plugin. Its like this across the entire site. If I go into my media files, you can see that a lot of them are not displaying. The help is always appreciated, thank you.
Hey Brian,
I’m sorry to hear what happened to your site. None of our products has the capability to delete images though so it is impossible that they will cause this issue.
Please review the third-party plugins you’re using to see if any of them can delete images. You won’t know by deactivating plugins in this case because your images are already deleted. You really need to review the plugin features.
The best solution for this is to restore a previous working state of your site. Ask your webhost if they can do this.
Thanks.
Hey, I appreciate the quick feedback. Unfortunately I tried backing up my site, and none of the images are restoring. The strange thing is I dont think they are deleted… If you go to my media files and click on them, then click edit, the image seems to appear. Unfortunately its just not displaying if that makes sense. I can show a recording if that might help so you know what I am talking about.
As of right now, it seems like the files are still there. I could be wrong, but would rather double check there isn’t some random line of code that may have completely messed wordpresses ability to display the images before I assume a plugin completely demolished the media library. Thank you.
If you look at the link I posted in the secure notes, you can see that I can still see the image if I “edit” it. If the file was deleted, then shouldn’t there be nothing?? Not sure what to do. And I backed up and restored my site from siteground, I went back as far as 2 days before the incident occurred. Still having display issues with the thumbnails across the entire site.
I STRONGLY believe that the files are still there, there is just some type of error. What error and how to fix it is beyond me.
Also, side note… The plugin “Imagify” which I believe caused the issues in the first place, IF it did in fact delete the files, which I don’t think it did, I have a direct back up of the files in wp-content/uploads/backup… At least thats where the plugin claims it backs up the files before it does any optimizing. Hopefully if all else fails, maybe you can tell me how I would go about extracting that file so i restore it to what it was. Thanks again
Hi Brian,
It looks like the issue is caused by the WebP express plugin. Because if you go to one of the missing image’s url you will get an error Validation failed for settings: Redirection to conversion script is not enabled
, which is an error produced by the said plugin. Here’s a link with the same issue https://wordpress.org/support/topic/redirection-to-conversion-script-is-not-enabled/
Could possibly make a staging environment of you site? So we can investigate further and not mess up your live site. Thanks
I think it was imagify, just because it had an option to convert the files to webp format, which i unfortunately did and then started to quickly see problems, I havent had webp express enabled for quite some time though. That being said… The staging environment sounds like a good idea, how would I go about doing that lol? Again, I really appreciate the help.
Hi Brian,
Glad to hear it’s working now! Some hosts (especially managed WordPress hosts) offer a way to create a staging site from within your account. No problem if this isn’t available though.
Take care!
