"Http error." when trying to upload JPG to media

I recently updated the theme and assorted plugins and this error started at that time.

For some reason I was able to upload a PDF file, but when I tried uploading a relatively small jpg file it wouldn’t work. There is no preview of the image and the folders were not created to hold it. I don’t understand why the PDF worked and the system made a preview. I went into the server with an FTP application and created the folders and dropped the JPG there. Nothing.

I read several articles in this help forum and even installed the String Locator plugin to see if I had the same problem with a typo and didn’t see that.

I do see a PHP update notice on my Dashboard, but when I contacted my host and they made sure the current PHP release was running on my server they said it was. The PHP notice is still there and I still can’t upload a JPG.

Don’t know how to read error logs or make sense of them. Would love some help. Thanks!

Hey Jennifer,

None of our products has a function that could block an image to be uploaded. That could be caused by a third-party plugin. With that said, please try testing for a plugin conflict. You can do this by deactivating all third party plugins, and seeing if the problem remains. If it’s fixed, you’ll know a plugin caused the problem, and you can narrow down which one by reactivating them one at a time.

Please also try switching to the default WordPress theme with all plugins deactivate and test uploading an image. If the issue persists, it’s highly likely an issue with your server configuration. It’s only your web host that could fix that in this case.

Thanks.
