HTML5 video not playing on Safari - RevSlider

The RevSlider works great on all browsers except Safari.

I see that YouTube videos do not auto play on mobile devices, but is that the same for HTML5 video. Any suggestions as to why it doesn’t work on Safari only?

Thanks,

Jimmy

Hello @jimmyp04,

Thanks for writing in!

I can confirm that your Revolution Slider is working smoothly on my Safari browser. Can you please clarify what issue are you experiencing?

On desktop, you can allow auto play for all videos by following some steps on this article.

Safari disabled auto play on mobile devices. As many device owners have data usage/bandwidth limits on their devices, Apple felt that the user themselves should decide when they initiate bandwidth usage. For more info, please read here.

Hope this helps.

It appears that on safari the HTML5 video overlay does not play and after a couple seconds the left side of the slider goes dark. This does not happen on any other browser I use.
I went into safari settings and changed the website setting to allow auto play always and this did not help.
Any other ideas?

Hi There,

Thanks for the update!

I can confirm the issue in safari. Can you please send us your login details in a secure note so that we can have a look.

Thanks

Thank you - please see in secure note

Hi @jimmyp04,

I could see that it is working on my side. Probably because of your safari version. Would you mind sharing us the version of your setup or you could try update your safari to the latest version.

Thanks.

Version of Safari is 11.0.3
It isnt working on my iPhone either using safari. The left side goes dark after a couple seconds and the video does not play like it does on Chrome, explorer, or firefox.

Hi there,

Youtube or HTML5 video, they will not autoplay in any touch device. I tried on my iPad’s chrome and firefox and it’s not auto-playing either. What I see is dark sky image with a moon, and not just black blank background.

Thanks!

Hi Rad -
Understand about the mobile devices. However, any idea why it won’t work in safari on my Mac?

Hi there,

Now I see what you mean, it’s because the video has the invalid format. Try accessing this video directly https://www.empowersperformance.com/wp-content/uploads/revslider/beforeafterslider/tp_vid_clouds-2.mp4, it will just play about 2-3 seconds and it will stop, and mostly it will not play at all.

Please check this https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/179642/safari-8-fails-to-play-any-mp4-video-in-browser

Or you can convert your video to another format that Safari is able to play.

Thanks!
