So you can’t have auto-updates enabled for MEC, and when I try to manually update it through the Updates page, I always get an error and it won’t update. I’m on 6.6.4 right now and it’s up to 7.3, so I want to get this updated ASAP
So what’s the best way to update this plugin?
Any idea why I’m getting an install error of “Update Package Not available” to begin with?

Thanks for writing to us.
I would suggest you please have a backup of the database and files before updating the plugin. Now you need to go to the plugin–>deactivate and delete the Modern Events Calendar plugin. You need to go to the X/Pro —> Extensions—>install the Modern Events Calendar plugin the bundled plugin.
Please remember that you need to purge all the cache so that the latest code renders properly.

So this is the solution I have to do every time I want to update this?
Why is MEC promoted as such a great plugin, yet you can’t even do normal updates and are required to delete & reinstall it?
Seems like a lot of junk work for a plugin
What will happen to the upcoming events I’ve already created once I delete the plugin & reinstall it?
Will I lose these upcoming events and have to manually recreate them all?

No, the data will remain. When an update is available, first try to deactivate (not delete) then click “Check Again” in the WordPress Update page.
Only if that doesn’t work, you need to uninstall the plugin.
Ok I was able to deactivate and then update the plugin, so I am good to go now and will utilize this method in the future.
But why is this even a problem? Isn’t Modern Events Calendar supposed to be one of the best out there for wordpress? But yet their plugin doesn’t even update like normal? Doesn’t make sense to me.
