How to create slider with featured image

Hey, im redoing this website: http://fireisland-news.com/

and if you take a look they have a slider that pulls in recent posts and has a featured image on top with thumbnails of other recent posts below it. Whats the best thing to use to recreate this? Every slider I try doesn’t work the way I want it to.

You may use Revolution Slider for this.

Click on the Free slider options and you should be able to find matching slides from what you require.

ok thanks, but I cannot download the free templates correct?
Ive tried many times and cannot figure it out. Unless I buy it.
