I understand that the preset feature is back but I don’t see how to create a preset. Is there any documentation on how to do that?
Hello @WPDave,
Thanks for writing to us.
In case you are trying to save your created design into a template please have a look at this video to learn more about how to save and export the templates.
In case you are pointing to something else please let us know.
Thanks
Hi @prakash, what I’m trying to do is different. X/Pro used to have a feature called presets. With a preset for a button I could save all the colors, interactions, etc. Then when I create my next button I could apply the preset and quickly set up all the properties.
Then, presets went away and were replaced by templates. And then in a recent release the preset feature was restored. (Check the release notes.)
However, I can’t see how to save and apply presets now. I’m guessing that the feature changed when it was removed and then restored.
Can you show how to Save & Apply presets?
Here’s some more info. Here’s an element in an older project (see screenshot). The Customize tab has an option to apply presets.
But when I look at a newer project there are no preset parameters.
Hello, are you saying your older presets from before are not showing up? Do you see them when you go to the Templates Tab > Manage Templates? If so could you send us a preset template download to checkout this issue?
No, I’m saying that new elements do not have the Preset attribute. So, there is no way to create a new preset.
Hi @WPDave,
Previously, you can save the styles using the Preset, but currently you can use the Template as suggested by my colleague Charlie.
Thanks
Just accidentally run into this thread.
I think the confusion is the fact that a button that says “Save template” (on the “Customize” tab) has to be pressed to save the preset, and then it will appear in the Presets dropdown. Mixing the terminology can confuse people.
@Misho, thanks for the suggestion. I wish I could find that Preset attribute you shared in your screenshot.
@tristup
When I look for a Save Template parameter on a Button element I don’t see anything like that on the Button Customize tab:
However, I am able to save a template as shown in @Prakash’s video.
My problem then is: how do I apply that template/preset to a new button? I can download it (to a .tco file) but that doesn’t seem to help.
I can Import the .tco file but that doesn’t help either.
If I right-click on a new button and choose Manage I get back to the Manage Element screen where I can Save it—but not Apply or restore.
Similarly, I can go to Manage Library and I can see my new template/element/style but I don’t see any way to apply to a new button.
What am I missing here? Saving and Applying preset styles and colors to a button used to be so easy. Now, I’m struggling to understand the new concepts/nomenclature.
Okay I think might have an idea now thanks. Let’s check two things here. In the Permissions section, there is a Global permission for “Apply Preset” you might need to turn on. I’m pretty sure this spot is the issue.
Second let’s check that your elements have the “Apply Preset” permission. This should be on by default, but if it’s not we might need to do something on our end. I don’t expect you to click that for every element.
Yes I agree saying “Save Preset” there is probably better. Even it’s pretty much the same thing.
Let me know if this helps!
Hi Charlie, thanks for the reply. You were right—the problem was in the permission sections. In fact, there was no Apply Preset permission shown. Then, I updated to the latest version of Pro and the preset options appeared. Once I did that it all started working.
I was surprised that the version update wasn’t already done. Usually, I keep things up to date. Anyway, I really appreciate your help and the help of your other staff. I don’t think I ever would have found the problem myself.
