How to add custom headers to archive pages

Hello,

I must have read several answers to questions in this forum about adding a header image to archive pages, but never have seen an explanation for how to create a custom header that will assign to category, archive and search results pages. Where in the X theme is an option to create a custom header image that will display above an archive page title?

Thanks.

Hey Joanna,

Regretfully, this is not possible in X and there’s currently no option to assign a header for archive pages in our Pro theme. But, you’ll get closer to achieving this with Pro. You just need to install and activate the Pro child theme and follow Michael’s tutorial here: https://michaelbourne.ca/assign-pro-header-search-results-page/

In the future, this might be easier in Pro. There’s no plans to incorporate this in X as Pro is the answer to all custom header needs. In X, this would require a lot of custom coding to achieve therefore it would require hiring a web developer to teach or do the theme customizations for you.

Hope that helps.

Not so helpful. We won’t be upgrading to Pro anytime soon. It would be better if you could support this customization in X.

Ok, I am a little confused then about the custom header showing up in a search results page on my website, but not if the search brings back no results, or for blog category and tag pages. The header image changes too, for search results. Can you explain this and could I replicate whatever the search results page is doing on archive pages?

Hello Joanna,

Thanks for writing in!

The banner header is actually a slider that came from the Training page that appears in the search result’s page. This is a confirmed bug that has been fixed already in the recent release. After further investigation, I found out that you are using an older version (X 6.4.6) which is why this banner bug is displaying in your site. Please be advised that we have released X 7.1.2 and Cornerstone 4.1.2. It is now available in automatic updates. You can now update to this latest version. This latest release contains fixes for several issues so be sure to check out the changelog (http://theme.co/changelog/).

After doing the updates, always remember to clear all caches (if you are using WP Rocket, WP SuperCache or W3 Total Cache) when updating so that the code from the latest release is always in use. This will help you to avoid any potential errors.

With X theme, adding custom banner or header to archive and search pages will only be possible with custom development which is beyond the scope of our support.

Hope this helps. Thank you for your understanding.
