How to add a slider photo that does not get cropped?

Hello. I’m trying to add a new photo to the slider on one of my pages, but cannot figure out how to avoid cropping.
Every photo I’ve added gets cropped. I’ve tried the following sizes:

1366 x 462
1500 x 844
1600 x 900
1900 x 700
1900 x 750

But each gets cropped in some way.

Thanks,

Carl

Hi There,

Thank you for writing in, what slider are you using? If you’re using Revolution slider please set the Slide Layout to Full-width so the slider respond to the screen width accordingly while maintaining its width/height ration (https://prnt.sc/fu4tpu).

If this does not resolve the issue, please provide us the page URL where we can see the issued slider.

Cheers!

Hi. Thanks for the reply.

I am indeed using Revolution Slider. I tried setting the slider layout to ‘Full-width,’ but the issues are still there.

If this does not resolve the issue, please provide us the page URL where we can see the issued slider.

I would like to do this. But the page is currently on my private dev site. I will give you login info via a secure note. Let me know if anything is insufficient.

Thanks.

Hi There,

Currently you set your slider to have a size of 1900 x 600 (https://prnt.sc/fukxan), but your images has a different aspect ratio. Even on Photoshop you can not fit your current images on a 1900 x 600 canvas without cropping or squashing it.

If you want to avoid cropping set your slider size and image size in the same ratio. You can try the 1600×900.

Hope it helps,
Cheers!

Hello. Thanks for the reply. Here are my follow ups:

Currently you set your slider to have a size of 1900 x 600

I am confused by this. In the screenshot you sent, one can see that ‘Custom Grid Size’ is ‘on,’ and its ‘Layer Grid Size’ is set to 1366 x 462. Doesn’t that override the ‘Layer Grid Size’ of 1900 x 600? Or does that ‘Custom Grid Size’ apply to notebooks only?

If you want to avoid cropping set your slider size and image size in the same ratio. You can try the 1600×900.

As I indicated in my original post, I have already tried using a photo of size 1600 x 900, but experience the same issue. Currently, that photo is loaded into slide #2 of the slider. Below, I have attached screenshots illustrating this, and the cropping issue that it possesses.

Also, I should mention that I inserted a photo of size 1500 x 833 into the slider, as slide #1. This photo actually displays without cropping. I do not understand–can you explain why. I should note that there are several other Slider Revolution sliders on my site, and all of them use photos that are 1500 x 833 in size. Can you explain why this size/aspect ratio displays without cropping, yet the others have cropping issues?

Lastly, is there any kind of official users manual for the X Theme, or other documentation?

Hi There,

Sorry, this makes me confuse a little bit too, but let me clarify this. What makes your slider looks like a wide-banner is because of layer grid size setting (https://prnt.sc/fv5b9x). That does not mean your slider will have 1900px all the time because not all screen has that kind of resolution. With that said, when the width of the slider reduce and so does the height. The important thing there is the slider maintain its (aspect ratio) wide-banner look.

Now lets look on your image, the image is almost square there is no way we can fit this on the current size of the slider without being cropped.

If you don’t want the image being crop, to show the image from top to toe, adjust the Layer Grid Size settings accordingly.

If you need to keep the slider size settings, but want to show the upper part of the image (just like the slide #1), please set the background-position to center top under the ken burns tab (https://prnt.sc/fv5jn5).

Here’s the slider documentation.

Hope this helps,
Thanks,

Hi Friech. OK I figured out my issues. I was using the wrong size for my photos. I should have been using 1900x600, but I accidentally used 1900x700. My mistake. I just tried a 1900x600 size photo and it seems to work better. There is still a little cropping but I see now that it is because of the Ken Burns tab–it make the slider zoom in on the image from 120% to 110%–so there will always be some cropping (unless I change this setting).

Let’s consider this resolved for now.

Thanks,

Carl

Glad you figured it out, we’re delighted to assist you with this.
