How do I find where a plug-in has been used

We have been using a plug-in named “Advanced Post List” (APL) for many years. This plugin has not been updated since March 2020, or tested with recent versions of Wordpress, and I am concerned about the plug-in’s integrity. I think we should phase it out, but our website is quite large, we’ve had many editors over the years, and we aren’t sure where APL has been used.

  1. What is your recommendation regarding phasing out the plug-in?

  2. Is there a way to easily determine where in the site the plug-in has been used?

Thank you.

Hello Comal,

Thanks for writing in.

1.) You will have to look for a plugin that offers similar features to the existing one. For example, if are using Envira Gallery plugin to display a grid of images, the Essential Grid plugin can be a substitute.

2.) If you know the features and/or functions of the plugin, you should be able to guess where it is been used on your site. To cite an example, the Ubermenu plugin functions specifically to display custom-designed menus for the site. Once you disable this plugin, you will know that the navigation menu of the site will display the theme’s default menu items or just the basic navigation menu.

Best Regards.

I didn’t phrase my questions well.

  1. Do you recommend we get rid of Advanced Post List or keep it?

  2. Is there a way to search the site to see where the plug-in has been used? Again, the site is older and there have been many volunteer users. We don’t have a clue where they used the plug-in.

Thank you.

Hi Comal,

Please find the answers to your questions below.

  1. Unfortunately, we can’t recommend anything like that. But we always suggest that the plugins are updated regularly and tested with the updated version of WordPress.

  2. There is no way to search which plugins are used in which places.

Thanks
