I would like a few pages of my website to not show up in search engines any longer. Is there a setting within X to accomplish this? What are my options? Your support in simple terms is much appreciated.

X doesn’t have such feature. Since X doesn’t have any SEO feature that deals with SEO Meta data (except for Structured Data and Open Graph), you need a SEO plugin anyway, like Yoast. It has an option to noindex any Page, Category or whole Post types easily.
There are alternative options to a SEO plugin, but this one is the best one. I personally think that a Theme shouldn’t have basic SEO options, as it is a rather complex ground that may lead to thinking that specialized SEO plugins would not be needed, while they do a lot more than it meets the eye (Making sure Image attachment pages don’t get indexed, removing content that has low value to Search engines, dealing with Canonical tags, Noindexing Search results etc).
RankMath is probably the strongest competitor to Yoast SEO these days, so you may look into more options. Personally, I trust Yoast the most, as it has the most knowledgeable and respectful dev team.

I had Yoast, but uninstalled it (no fan). What would be the alternative apart from using an SEO package? Any simple solution (this is just for one or two pages) will do.

@amaritrading, if you have Google Tag Manager installed, you can add the noindex tag and trigger it on Pageview for the Page you would like to noindex. This is the tag:
<meta name="robots" content="noindex,follow"/>
If you don’t have GTM, you can install the Insert Header and Footers plugin, and add the tag on the page where you need it.
