Homepage background MP4 not playing on devices

Hi there,

I have a regular ol’ mp4 video that is being used as a background element on this homepage. The website client has an iPhone but also tried Chrome and other browsers with no luck to see the video - only gets the poster image. Any advice there? (I have an android and it plays for me just fine, but they state that other platforms aren’t working for them so thought I would ask for some help.

Hi @tkcostello,

The background videos are disabled on iPhone due to performance issues. It only plays in the Chrome and other browsers on Android devices.

Hmm. I have heard this before, but on some websites that I have created the same way, they play on iPhones…is this something that will be changed or?

Thanks for updating in!

Please do know that you are using .m4v video file.

Please convert your video file and use the .mp4 instead because this is the format that is cross-browser compatible. You may need to use HandBrake(handbrake.fr) to convert your video.

Ah, thanks for telling me that. I originally had the mp4 in there and tried to use handbrake (even though I have zero clue what I am to do in there), but now it is an mp4 file…same issues.

I know this is not in your area, but any advise on using Handbrake for just this purpose? I can’t seem to find any documentation on recoding…
