Hide Featured Image from Home Page

Hi,

I’ve searched the forums for this and found similar posts but mostly around hiding featured images from posts.

Is there a step by step guide to add a featured image (so that it appears in social media posts, etc) but doesn’t actually show up on the page itself?

Thanks,
Mark

Hey Mark,

You can add the Featured Image in the Feature Image area when you edit a page or a post:

The Featured Image should automatically show as the image when you share the post or the page.

Another option would be to use the Yoast SEO plugin where you can specify which image so show:

Hope this helps.

So the only place that I know where to add a featured image on a page (not looking for a post right now) is via the Wordpress Editor. Do I agree to this warning and proceed? Makes me nervous. https://thechatta.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Screen-Shot-2019-07-19-at-2.28.47-PM.png

And to be clear, I do NOT want the featured image to be visible on the page. I only want it to show up when I put my web site address into social posts.

Hello Mark,

I can see that you are using Jetpack plugin. The Jetpack plugin is the one responsible in putting up open graph tags (title, description, image, etc.) so that it will display correctly in social media posts.

Please be advised that Jetpack plugin will look for a featured image. The featured image will be used as the image to display when sharing the page or post in social media sites like Facebook and Twitter.

Please go to Pages > All Pages. Find your homepage and click “Edit”. When you are in the page editing screens, do not switch between editors. Simply find the “Featured Image” box on the right-side panel. The featured image will only appear if you are using the default page template. If you are using Blank - No Container page templates, the feature image will not display.

Hope this helps. Kindly let us know.

Do you mean in the Wordpress editor? Obviously in the Pro editor I’m not seeing an option for Featured Image

So going into the WP editor won’t screw up all the work I’ve put into in Pro?

Hello Mark,

1.) You can add the featured image by going to Pages > All Pages and select the page to edit like the image below:

2.) You can find the featured image box on the right side:

Hope this helps. Please let us know how it goes.

Thanks for this - I never thought to click on the gear icon. Found where to put the featured image.

However despite changing, it’s still picking a random image for a social post.
My featured image:

What’s showing in a social post:

Just saw this. That’s my problem. Is there a way to choose an image for social posts without having to use the default template?

Hello Mark,

When I check your homepage, it is already using the assigned featured image as the og:image tag.

Just make sure that you have uploaded at least 600x600 image so that it can easily be fetched by the crawler. Bigger file size tends to create issues.

Hope this helps.
