Hero video issue

This is a weird one. I’m using the LayerSlider to incorporate a video as the hero image in the header of the homepage. When I first load the site – whether from a bookmark, link, or typing in the URL – the video doesn’t play. However, if I click on the logo/link at the top left of the site (which takes visitors back to the homepage), the video plays immediately and flawlessly.

I’m at a loss to know where to start to troubleshoot this. Thanks for any help you can give!

Thanks for writing in! I have tested loading your site first, then I have bookmarked your site. Then I have loaded your site from the bookmark, but I could not replicate this issue.

Is there any specific browser that you’re having this issue? Also you need to make sure to clear your browser cache before testing.

Hmmm. Well, I’m glad to hear it’s not an issue that replicates for other users out on the web!

It occurs using Chrome, and even when I run an incognito window to avoid any caching issues.

Hello @lancesalyers,

I have checked your site and I can confirm that the video does not play at the first load. I also checked the page and there is a JS error:

Uncaught (in promise) DOMException: play() failed because the user didn't interact with the document first.

This could be the cause of the issue. Would you mind providing us your WP access so that we can check your slider settings and the video itself?

The login credentials does not work. However, I have replicated the issue on my end so this looks like a bug with LayerSlider. See https://youtu.be/TcydrlZOk8Y

The LayerSlider devs need to get around the autoplay policy in Chrome: https://developers.google.com/web/updates/2017/09/autoplay-policy-changes

I’ll post this in our issue tracker but for now, regretfully, you will need to use Slider Revolution or Cornerstone’s Video Background for Section.
