Help adding content to homepage X THEME ethos

I would like to add a couple things to my site that I saw on the demo site… See attached? I can’t figure out how to do this… any help would be appreciated…

Thanks for posting in!

1.) You are referring to the Category Filter. This will be displayed if you enable the Filterable Index option in X > Theme Options > Ethos > Blog Options. Enabling the filterable index will bypass the standard output of your blog page, allowing you to specify categories to highlight. Upon selecting this option, a text input will appear to enter in the IDs of the categories you would like to showcase. This input accepts a list of numeric IDs separated by a comma (e.g. 14, 1, 817).
