Header built with Revolution Slider – Alternatives?

Dear Themeco Support Team

We have built our site in 2014, and used Revolution Slider for our header element. The header element consists of an image, a graphic element with some transparency at the bottom, a button and a “prompt”-element. If I remember correctly, the Revolution Slider was the only possibility then to combine these elements into our header element.

It looks like this:

Since we experience difficulties with Revolution Slider almost always after running updates on our site, we are looking for a way to replace it. Maybe there are some new features in the X Theme in the meantime, that we could use. Would you mind giving us some advice/Starting point on that? Thank you.

Thanks for reaching out.

You could try the bundled Layerslider plugin, but it still far from the features of Revolution Slider especially with the kind of layout you have in your screenshot (layer positioningg and scaling).

It’s either reworking your slider with the new Revolution Slider 6.0, or restore your slider back to 5.0. For me, even though it’s an update, I personally consider it a major different version. I saw many issues regarding the jump from 5.0 to 6.0 and it seems unavoidable due to feature changes, given that you’re coming from very old version. It could happen to any theme or plugins that has very large gap in between versions.

I also recommend cloning and testing any updates to a staging (a copy of your site) instead of doing it in a fully working live site. Anything could happen, and even there is no issues with compatibility, the data could still be affected that’s why it’s important to test it first.
