Header Assignment Is utterly confusing

Hi, I’m having such extreme difficulty assigning headers. Simply don’t understand why assigning headers have to be such a pain after this latest update.

I’m trying to adding two different headers for different pages.

The header at https://apacchrie2021sg.com/main-conference/call-for-papers/ is for the entire site.

I have assigned another header on page https://apacchrie2021sg.com
Kept it at Priority 0 but it just doesn’t reflect.

Please can someone enlighten me what I’m doing wrong? The new way of assigning headers is so frustrating and utterly confusing it’s such a chore.

Hi, I had the same issue and set a lower priority to that new header. I did not use 0, I used 1.
Rather than using page specific I used “Page publish date” which worked as a work around.

Thanks for the assist! I’ve found a solution as well, which was to set priority -1 for my specific header and switch it to Or logic instead.

Hi @jasksks,

G lad to hear you got it worked out. One things to keep in mind is the difference between and and or in this context. I understand it can be a bit confusing as you could read it like: “I want my header to show on Page A AND Page B”.

We’re making traditional boolean logic statements here so what’s really happening is: “I will only show this header if the current page is Page A OR the current page is Page B”.

So to assign on multiple pages you’ll need the “Add Condition Group” button to setup a new or statement.

Here are a few quick tips:

  • Use or when you want the header to show in another separate context
  • Use and* when you want to further restrict the assignment for one of the contexts
  • Bump the priority on your “Entire Site” header to something higher like 20 to make sure that assignment doesn’t conflict with more granular ones.

Hopefully this helps clear up any confusion!

Thanks @Alexander! It does help lots! Appreciate your kind advice.

You’re very welcome, @jasksks!
