Header and Footer Editor in WPML Not Saving

We’ve just encountered what seems to be a bug. We’re using WPML to translate our sites from English to French, and were recently working on our headers and footers using the Pro editor.

We found an issue where one of our translators added in the translated version of the header/footer, set the viewing conditions and saved them, however on the front end the translated headers and footers did not appear. Upon refreshing the editor, none of the changes were saved, and the French side of the header and footer had been cleared out. This issue doesn’t happen with translating pages using the Pro editor, just the headers and footers, and took place on several of our sites.

Upon further investigation, we had someone with super admin access (all our other translators had admin access, just not super admin privileges) add the translation to the headers and footers, which saved, appeared on the frontend, and could be accessed from the Pro editor again. However, once saved, if another of the translators went in and edited them and saved their changes, they would once again disappear from the frontend and would be blank the next time they were accessed from the Pro editor. Providing these translators with super admin privileges now allows them to add the translations using the Pro editor without any issues, so it appears that there may be an issue with permissions that allows admins to access the headers and footers through the Pro editor, but saving them causes it to become blank unless you’re also a super admin.

Hi James,

Thanks for reaching out.
It is a really weird issue you are having, what we can assume that there might be some issues with the Role and Permission of the specific user type which is creating/updating the Header. I would suggest you please provide login credentials for your site on a secure note so we can check and investigate the reason behind it.
Please include the following details:

– WordPress Site URL & Login URL
– WordPress Admin username/password

Thanks, I have included the login credentials in a secure note below.

Hey James,

Thanks for the information. We have logged in and edited your unassigned header. We added a bar and saved the changes. Both of the headers were saved. Kindly check out the secure note below.

You may need to clear your plugin cache and browser cache and test your site again.

Thanks - apologies, it looks like this issue is only happening on this site with the footer (one of our translators had the issue with the header on a different site it seems). We’re still experiencing the issue when the footer is saved on the French side by a non-Super Admin user. I have included a screen recording showing the issue (from the perspective of an admin (non-super admin) attempting to edit the French translation of the footer) in a secure note.

Hi James,

I have checked the Footer shown in the given video, and I didn’t find any content in it. I created a new Themeco Footer and followed the steps of the video after modifying it multiple times, but it didn’t come up with the error described in the video. I would suggest you create or restore the footer shown in the video and let us know if that issue still exists or not.

Thanks
