Grid, sidebar and category archive issues

Hi there, we have a few things we need some help with.

First of, the featured images are cut off weirdly (top and bottom of the illustrations is missing) on all of the category archive pages where we have images with a 1:1 ratio; example here. How can we make it so that the whole image is visible?

Next off, we can’t select the Masonry skins in the Grid - at all. They’re greyed out and we can’t make any changes to the existing skins either.

Thirdly, we’ve seen that one of our custom sidebar keeps overriding all others on blog posts which should have a different sidebar depending on the category the post is in. We’ve manually assigned the sidebars according to post categories, but that didn’t stop the one “rogue” sidebar to be viewed on all of them.
For example, this post falls under the “Postpartum” category, but in the sidebar you’ll only see posts from the “#boobertruths” category (like any other post you might choose to view).
We tried troubleshotting on a staging site, but haven’t been able to find out the root of the problem.

Thank you in advance.

Hey @INcroatia,

For the 1st issue, the Aspect Ratio of the Featured Image of the Ethos Stack is fixed and that is 3:2. You need to use images that are 3:2 in aspect ratio. If you’re not familiar with aspect ratios, please check this article.

For the 2nd issue, I can edit the skin of the grid and select Masonry in the Skin Editor. Would you mind detailing how we can replicate the issue? Please provide screenshots.

For the 3rd issue, it’s because you checked Posts under the Post Types. The sidebar assignment takes that instead of the specific post assignment. That option is good only if you want 1 sidebar for all your posts.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, @christian!

The Grid issue with the skins - on the main site, the Skin Builder looks like this for us:

Masonry is just greyed out and nothing we do allows us to switch from Grid/Justified Skins to Masonry Skins.

Hi @INcroatia,

The Skins show in that way only, here the Skins represent the single item of the layout you have chosen i.e Masonry or Grid. In the Skin editor you edit the preset structure of the single item elements, or you can add other available elements to the skins.

Thanks

Hi @tristup,

Seems like we haven’t expressed ourselves properly.
The issue that we have is that we are completely unable to select Masonry Skins. We cannot shift between Grid/Justified and Masonry. We ONLY see Grid/Justified Skins. That’s what we need help with. There’s an issue, which we can’t pinpoint, on both our live AND staging website.

We’re don’t know why or how your colleague was able to shift between them, but we can’t, and we can’t save edits on the Masonry skin we would like to make the changes on.

Hi @INcroatia,

I checked both of your sites and you’ve quite an old version of The Grid extension installed, please update your extension to the latest version first as many bugs have been fixed in the latest releases. You can find the latest version numbers here: (https://theme.co/docs/version-compatibility) Then you can compare them to what’s installed on your site.

If you find anything to be out of date, you can review our update guide.

Let us know how this goes!
