Grid box and hover over-keeping square and lining up

I am setting up a website that will be in a grid. There are 4 boxes across and then how ever many I would need for down. The issue is that I want to put a photo in the background of the box and keep it a box and then I created a button for the hover over to get a link to the page.

The problem is that the photo box doesnt stay sized as a box and the hover over doesn’t line up with the box.
