Google Analytic Issue with Search in X theme

Please review a video in the secure note for the issue. I have attached website url in there as well

Thanks!

Hey @sbxstrategies,

The issue is not with X but with your Google Analytics setup. The way your setup works is it includes all forms in your site. Please note that the Search feature is also a form. You need to set your analytics up to watch for specific forms only. Regretfully, setting up Google Analytics is beyond the scope of our theme support so you’d need to consult with a Google Analytics expert.

Hi @christian,

This is not entirely accurate. It’s not our set up. It’s only part of our set-up if we had google analytics tracking forms through google tag manager. In this case, this is the default event tracking in Google analytics. This would mean that every user of google analytics and this search form from X would have to either:

  1. Turn of Google default form event tracking and manually create their own in Google tagmanager, which includes a negative/not include function
  2. Would need to make a custom definition that allows for form differentiation, then manually sort for this in explore reports.

While we know how to do these things, it’s not ideal as we (I) will have to go through all of our analytics accounts and deal with this. And there are a lot.

Hey @sbxstrategies,

Thank you for your feedback. We’d appreciate if you could propose a solution. What do you need updated in the search form’s code? We will see if it would be possible to implement your proposed in a future release.
