GDPR Google fonts again

Hi Team,

I am aware that there are several threads about this issue. However time is passing by and there seams no (easy) solution yet.
If we use google fonts it could be really critical to be conform with GDPR.

I believe we (urgently) need a solution to include google fonts from a local source.

Thank you,
Michael

Hi @mickna,

Thanks for writing in.

This topic already brought to use before, and to the upcoming version (2.1) there will be added features related to GDPR

  • The ability to completely disable Google Fonts by using the font manager and only setting up system fonts
  • The ability to filter the Google Fonts base URL if you want to use it’s API but through another service or a proxy.

We can’t include google fonts as self-hosted files, they don’t belong to us. It’s just free to use but through their API. There will be no built-in feature for loading custom fonts too.

Thanks!

Hi Rad,

thank you for the detailed explanation.
Can you give us a forecast, when 2.1 will be released?

Thank you,
Michael

Hi Michael,

I am sorry but we cannot provide the exact time of the release.

We are currently on testing phase with version 2.1 and depending on the outcome of our test my estimate is, it should be out in a week or two.

Thanks

That’s sound great.
Thank you,
Michael

You’re welcome, Michael.

Hello Michael,

something new about version 2.1?

Thanks

Hello @SfMeV,

Thanks for updating the thread.

We are in the second phase of beta testing. As you must be aware that these testings are extremely crucial for our customers website. That’s the reason why we are doing extensive testing of the up coming release. Unfortunately as of now I am not in a position to give you a specific launch date but we are hoping to release the update very soon.

I am sharing the changelog link that you can take a look to keep upto date with latest announcements.

Thanks.

Hey @Prasant,
any news on update 2.1? Please consider that there’s a time gap between Europe and the US and that a solution on late 24th will be a bit late…

Thanks again for your efforts.

Hi @mexicola84

Thanks for your note, I’ll let the team know about that. We still don’t have a specific ETA for this update yet, except that it’s scheduled to be released in May.

Thanks.
