GDPR coming 25th May ... General Discussion + ThemeCo & GDPR

Hi Guys,

As ye may all know the new EU/European Data Laws - GDPR are nearly upon us this May 25th 2018. At the centre of these laws is CONSENT & the power of being more hardwired to the website user, customer etc. It affects not only website owners in Europe but also any website from around the world who has users from Europe.

I even see tools now cropping up where sites are blocking European users so they can bypas or not have to update there sites for GDPR. Many businesses and websites ( esp live gaming sites ) are closing there European operations due to GDPR ( can provide links, easy to find ).

Even FACEBOOK who were effectively HQed in Dublin Ireland where Facebook fell in under Irish Data law ( soon to be GDPR ) have moved 1.5Billion non European users over to the USA system so they now fall under the less stringent US Data laws.

So to that end I am just asking here WHAT are people doing to make there sites GDPR ready with XTHEME? Privacy Statements, forms with a consent tick box ( Contact Form 7 added this recently ). BTW I have a good few clients dropping there contact forms from there sites.

Is / Will THEMECO be adding some toold and features to the Xtheme to help us designers make Client sites GDPR compliant?

Any advise blog post possible from THEMECO  … just a thought.

And if you just have X Theme installed into Wordpress with maybe Contact Form 7 … what COOKIES or other data is being taken if any. I am just asking Themeco this based on WHAT IS IN There control. This could be a big selling feature too. XTheme helps a designer with tools to be GDPR compliant?

Cheers
Aidan o Driscoll

Hello Aidan,

Thanks for asking.

As of today we offer 3 products i.e X, Pro and Cornerstone. Via our products we don’t store any of customer’s data on our servers, the only connection between our server and your site the product validation, demo imports, and design cloud (for Pro). It does store data but into your site (all themes and plugins do that) and it only consists of settings, content, and such as building blocks of a WordPress sites.

On forum we have a thread wherein our team leader @matt discussed GDPR in great detail. I suggest you to please take a look:

I am sharing few plugins and tutorial that you can use to make website GDPR compliant.

Please note that the plugins I have shared is not a official Themeco advice. It’s just a personal input that I have shared with you to help you get started. 3rd party plugins may cause some issues and we won’t be able to provide support in that scenario.

Thanks.
